5th Grade Evening of Dinner and Dance
RSVP Instructions

Students, please review the specific instructions below on how to RSVP.
This event is assigned seating. RSVPs are critical and must be done immediately upon receipt of the invitation.
As the RSVP process is part of our curriculum, responses from parents on behalf of a student will not be accepted.

What does RSVP mean anyway!?!?
The term "RSVP" on an invitation is short for a French phrase, repondez s'il vous plait, meaning "respond if you please." It is a polite way of requesting a response to the invitation. Although it is a polite way of ‘requesting’ a response, the recipient should know that the response is required - either a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. It is your obligation to reply promptly. You should respond as soon as possible and no longer than three days after you receive the invitation. Not responding promptly is extremely rude and disrespectful to the host or hostess.
You should respond to the invitation in the manner in which it was sent, or how the RSVP is requested. If the invitation was mailed via the post office, look for your instructions on the invitation. If the invitation was sent via text or email, you may respond in the same manner.
Some invitations, like those for weddings or more formal affairs, include a card and an envelope to make responding even easier. If no card or envelope is enclosed, more than likely a phone number is included for you to call in your response.

Can I bring a friend?:
Guests should take care to read the envelope and any enclosures carefully, as it will provide information about who all is being invited. "Ms. Jones and friend" or "Ms. Jones and guest" suggests that Ms. Jones and another individual are invited. "Mr. Smith and family" suggests that Mr. Smith, his partner, and his children are invited, while "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" suggests that the children are not invited. In some cases, only "Ms. Jones" will be invited; when an invitation does not mention a guest or ask how many are attending, the invitee should assume that additional, unnamed guests are not invited.

The 5th Grade Evening of Dinner and Dance is Semi-Formal
Ladies should wear tea-length, age-appropriate dresses (examples would be Easter, 'flower girl’ or ‘party’ type dresses,) and dress shoes. We are more concerned with the dresses being age-appropriate and comfortable than we are with the term 'tea-length'.
Gentlemen should wear khaki pants, dress shirts, ties, and navy or dark blazers. A suit is also perfectly acceptable. We introduce Tuxedos next year in the 6th-grade program.
